Jazz piano practice
You hear something good — a lick, a voicing, a way of comping — think I should work on that, and never think about it again. And on the rare occasion you do work on something, you learn it in the key you found it in and it evaporates everywhere else.
Phrases does something about both halves. Capture an idea wherever you come across it, then practise it across all twelve keys on a spaced-repetition schedule — so it makes it into your playing instead of being seen once and forgotten.
